FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 5, 2008 CAMR LOOKS FORWARD TO
STEM CELL POLICY CHANGE UNDER OBAMA ADMINISTRATION The
following statement may be attributed to Amy Comstock Rick, president,
Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research, Washington, D.C.: "On
behalf of the 100 million Americans who suffer from cancer, Parkinson's,
Alzheimer's, juvenile diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and the many diseases and
disorders for which embryonic stem cell research provides great hope, we
congratulate President-elect Obama. It's time for a change in
policy, and we look forward to 2009 and the President-elect taking his
support for embryonic stem cell research from the Senate to the White
House. This has been a decade of
progress in stem cell research and we look forward to building on
this scientific foundation in full partnership with the federal
government. We plan to work with the President-elect and his transition
team on responsible and ethical federal policy that supports embryonic stem
cell research and the hope it provides to those who suffer most. # #
