CAMR Statement re: Harkin-Specter Stem Cell Provision in Labor-HHS Appropriations Bill

The following statement may be attributed to Sean Tipton, president, Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR):

"CAMR supports the Harkin-Specter provision to include funding for embryonic stem cell research in the Labor-HHS appropriations bill. While not a substitute for S. 5 -- the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act -- it is a step forward in trying to secure federal funding and oversight for research that America overwhelmingly supports. We applaud Senator Harkin and Senator Specter's continued efforts and diligence not only to expand the number of stem cell lines that are eligible for NIH-funded research, but also further tighten the ethical guidelines on this research so that the science can move forward."
